When I was a boy growing up in Ohio, we had a burning barrel. I had to take the trash out and burn it once a week. The idea of getting rid of trash is when it builds up, you will be out there for a while. You are too afraid to walk away from it because the dry grass from mowing could start a brush fire, especially in the summer. You don’t leave it unattended. Just like sin, you don’t want to let it build up. You need to face it, give it to the Lord, and ask forgiveness as soon as possible. You don’t want to live with that burden all your life. You don’t want it to build up, either!
Who do you or who can you ever tell those silent secrets to? There is only one that can give you a time and place to hear your problems of the day. Only one is ever present to hear your grief, your secrets, or the sin that you hold in that secret place in your heart where mold and rot grow and pierce even to your mind and twist in your gut.
You do not have to live with that kind of turmoil. You and I have longed for someone we can trust or someone who would listen to us about that thing we have held such hatred of self for!
God is waiting for you to give it to Him. Believe in Him that he will take that admission of guilt to a place you cannot find, as far as the East is from the West! There is no measurement for that length. You cannot fathom it. You cannot wrap your mind around it, but God loves you that much.
Psalms 103:11-12. “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. As a father shows compassion to his children, so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear him.”
Learn from this and all of His words, and thank Him for His forgiveness always and for the sacrifice His Son Jesus Christ made on the Cross on Calvary.
As the trash/sin builds up, it must be taken on that walk to your knees in prayer to God through Jesus Christ with the help of the Holy Spirit, or it will get deeper and deeper.
Remember how it felt once you were relieved of that sin before, and do not repeat it, but look to Him that set you free.
1 Corinthians 10:13: “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”
